Guiding principles

  • The primary objective of the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center is to reduce the impact of neurodegenerative disease.

  • Translational research — Our approach is to combine a mechanistic understanding of the nervous system and the diseases that afflict it with an ability to apply this fundamental neuroscience to clinical challenges. This translational focus will improve our capacity to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure neurodegenerative disease.

  • Innovation — Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center programs will seek to break new ground, promoting new ideas, research and technology.

  • Communication — Information about and opportunities within the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center will be openly disseminated throughout the Harvard medical community, with a particular emphasis on junior researchers. All members should contribute to this dissemination.

  • Teaching and training — Through training and teaching -- particularly at the interface between basic and applied laboratories -- the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center will promote better understanding and awareness of the challenges of biomedical neuroscience.

  • A springboard — The Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center’s new approach to biomedical research will seed analogous efforts in other disciplines throughout the Harvard medical community.

If you meet the above criteria, we encourage you to join the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center.
